Instead of physically moving myself to see new places, I've joined the countless hordes who have redefined their experience with food - I've started a Water Fast!
It's interesting to find out that there are different kinds of fasts - a quick search on Google shows the definition as "Abstain from all or some kinds of food or drink, esp. as a religious observance.". I've always thought of it as simply not eating, but apparently it gets pretty complicated. Suffice it to say that I've sought the advice and guidance of my physician, and have set firm goals to avoid complications.
The first 2 days have seen a drop of 6-7 pounds, and the onset of a headache which is common when one denies their body something to which it has become accustomed to, but doesn't really need. It comes and goes, so as long as it goes before bedtime I'll be happy! Interestingly enough, hunger pains haven't been an issue, although lunch time at work has brought many fascinating aromas that I don't normally notice.

Last night was much better... still had a slight hint of a headache at bedtime, but had no trouble falling asleep.
I guess I forgot to keep this updated... the fast only lasted 8 days. 3 days of headaches, and 5 days of persistent heartburn. While hunger never became the main issue, I can't say I ever got to the point where food didn't sound good.
ReplyDeleteThe common wisdom seems to be that it's best to build up to long-term fasting... maybe the next time I'll shoot for 10 days :D
